Where to sell DVDs?

by admin

I’ve never been a huge hoarder, but I am always on the lookout to find the best places for DVD sales.

Streaming services and digital downloads have replaced physical media products as the main source of entertainment.

Why buy a DVD when it is possible to download it directly onto your mobile device or TV and watch the movie with a single click?

But I do know that a lot of people, especially those who are “old-school”, still use DVDs…and that they’re always looking for a good deal. Don’t throw away those DVDs – try to sell them for some money!

Best Places to sell DVDs

You can sell your DVDs online, or locally to neighbors. You don’t have to worry about them – someone else will buy them!

1. Bonavendi

Bonavendi doesn’t sell DVDs but will help you locate the most suitable places to sell them. This is a website that compares prices for used products. It compiles catalogs from more than 30 websites that sell and buy used items.

You can search Bonavendi for the best places to buy and sell used CDs, video games, textbooks, DVDs, and Blu-rays.

Enter the barcode, the EAN or the title of the DVDs you want to sell. Bonavendi compares prices and gives you a result within seconds.

It will also help you find the best places to sell your collection if you are looking to buy or sell a large number of items.

Bonavendi offers a free iPhone or Android app. You can scan the barcodes on the DVDs that you want to sell in the app and get the best possible price.

You probably don’t want to fill up your home again, but you can search the Bonavendi catalog for items you might like to purchase. It’s a great way for you to save money while also helping the environment.

2. Decluttr

Decluttr offers the best place to sell DVDs, games and other technology. You can sell DVDs and Blurays as well as your phone, CDs or books, other tech items, games, consoles and even LEGO Bricks.

Decluttr offers free shipping for all orders. Once they receive your items, they will pay you the next day. Get paid via PayPal, direct deposit, or check. You can choose to donate a portion of your payment to charity.

Enter the barcodes of your DVDs to find out how much they’re worth. Decluttr has an app that converts your phone camera into a scanner, so you can scan barcodes without having to manually enter them.

You can check out once you have 10 media items, 1 tech item or with a total value of $5. Decluttr will send you a shipping label to package and send your items.

Once your order is received, you’ll receive a prompt payment. Your items are insured for the entire transit.

You won’t get rich selling your DVDs to Decluttr if they aren’t rare or collectible. It’s still a great way to get rid a lot DVDs quickly and easily.

3. Sell DVDs online

The name of the website is pretty self-explanatory. This is one of the best websites to sell DVDs. They will also buy used CDs and games.

Your items must meet the following requirements: be in excellent condition or better, have a UPC and a proven demand on the used item marketplace. Make sure your items are in good condition because they won’t be returned if not.

Enter the UPC code of your DVDs for an instant quote. When your order has reached a certain size (at least $7.50), a shipping label will be provided for free.

You’ll receive payment via PayPal or check within 3 business days after Sell DVDs Online has received your items.

You may find better prices here than anywhere else. Over 200,000 customers from all over the United States have bought their products.

4. EagleSaver.com

EagleSaver.com offers another great online site to sell DVDs. You won’t be charged any fees to sell, and they will also ship your DVDs to you for free.

EagleSaver.com also accepts used CDs, books, and video games. You can use their free app to scan your items or type the barcodes directly on their site.

EagleSaver.com makes a special point that TV collections on dvd do especially well. If you have any of these, this is a good place to begin.

The discs must be in good condition. They cannot have medium or heavy scratches, or skips. The front and back covers must be complete. Items that were previously rented or borrowed from libraries are also not allowed to be sold.

Your order will be processed in 24 hours after they have received your items. They will return any items that do not meet the minimum standards. You will receive payment by check or PayPal.

Buy eBay

eBay was probably the first place that you thought about when selling DVDs. It is, if you believe that people will want to buy large portions of your DVD collection or if you have valuable and/or rare DVDs.

How to sell on eBay:

  1. List your item free of charge. Set the terms of the auction, including the starting bid, shipping costs, the length of time and other details. You can set a price for “Buy It Now”.
  2. Let people bid on your items
  3. Send the item to the winning bidder
  4. eBay will take a percentage of the sale price. The current fees for DVDs is 12% of final value, and the first 200 listings are free.

This option is best reserved for large collections of DVDs in high demand.

This is a good tip: search for the item you’re looking to sell and then click on “Completed Items”, “Sold Items”, or “Sold Items”, located at the left of the page, to see the price people paid. You may be a fan of your “Happy Days DVD collection”, but if nobody is buying them, it probably won’t be worth your time.

Some people may still be old-fashioned and want to buy your DVD collection. Hey, my husband just bought 100 (!) CDs on eBay. Maybe a technophobe will buy your CDs.

6. Amazon

Amazon may not be the best place to sell DVDs , unless you are selling high-ticket items such as box sets or rare collectibles. Why? The charges.

Amazon charges $0.99 for each unit sold if you are an individual seller. If you’re planning to sell less than 40 units per month, this is the plan for you. You’ll need to choose the professional plan, which costs $39.99/month. It also comes with additional benefits.

You’ll have to pay additional item fees after the $0.99 fee per unit. The DVD fee is currently 15% plus $1.80 for closing fees. Your item would have to sell for at least $3.29 to break even on the fees.

Amazon is not a bad place to sell DVDs, but you need to be realistic.

Selling on Amazon offers many benefits: Amazon is a huge marketplace with a lot of buyers. It’s also relatively easy to set up prices and manage your inventory in your account.

Don’t completely write off Amazon…but do a quick Google search to find out how much others are charging for the DVDs you’re also trying to sell. This will help you decide if it’s worthwhile.

Sell DVDs Near You

Although it’s convenient to sell DVDs online, selling them at a local store may earn you more money.

7. Used Bookstores

Second only to the library for new media, used bookstores are also my favorite. The primary way that they obtain material to sell is by buying books and dvds from you!

Search on the Internet for “used bookshops near me who buy DVDs”, or “used bookshops near me who buy movies”. This should provide you with a list of places to start.

half price books is a used bookshop I am familiar with that has locations all over the country. Bring your books to the Buy Counter at your local Half Price Books to sell them.

Wait for someone behind the counter evaluate your items, and then make you an offer. Accept or reject the cash offer and then collect the money (and it is cash, not credit).

Half Price Books will accept DVDs and Blu Rays in the original packaging. To receive an offer, you must visit a store in person. They won’t provide a quote on the phone or their website.

Remember that they’ll consider both the condition of an item and whether there is a demand for the item.

This is only the policy of one used bookshop. Your local used store may follow a different procedure and/or offer you more money for your DVDs, if you opt for store credit rather than cash.

8. The FYE

FYE sells new and used DVDs and Blu-rays online, as well as in brick-and mortar stores. SecondSpin was a sister website that closed down in April 2020. SecondSpin allowed online sales of used goods, but FYE does not.

You can still bring your used DVDs into most of their stores. There are 41 locations, so you’re likely to find one close by. It is recommended that you call your preferred location in advance to confirm they accept used items, and to schedule the best time for you to come in.

You’ll need to ensure that your DVDs are in a good condition, and they should be in an original case and packaging. Apparently, they will also give you more store credit than cash.

9. Music Stores

Most music stores, both new and used, will buy your DVDs. You’ll need to do a search like “music shops near me that sell DVDs” in order to find one.

Metro areas might have better luck. In my metro area of Minneapolis, I found two local chains that would buy your used DVDs. Up in the Valley and Cheapo. You will need your DVDs to be in their original packaging and artwork, and free of scratches.

You may be able to get more money if you choose store credit over cash, depending on the retailer. Call ahead to check if the store is open and if there’s an opportunity to sell.

10. Consignment Stores

Consignment shops are another great place to sell DVDs. Search for “consignment shops near me that purchase DVDs” in your locality.

It’s important to know the difference between consignment and resale when you bring items into a store that sells used goods. If the store is a resale shop, they will buy your items and give you cash.

You’ll get paid a percentage of the sale price for your items at a consignment shop.

11. Craigslist

You can sell DVDs on Craigslist without having to worry about packaging, shipping or even bringing the items into a store.

I did a quick Craigslist search and found a few DVD sets that were of interest. One set included 17 Barbie DVDs, which was only $10. My girls would enjoy this for road trips. Yes, people are still using Craigslist for buying and selling items.

Craigslist makes it easy to post items – you just need to upload a few pictures and a brief description. Then, wait for people to contact your listing. All of this is 100% free.

Just a little tip you may have heard before: It’s best to meet at a public place, to be safe.

Craigslist has a few advantages. The people who use Craigslist are older and may be more interested to buy your used DVDs.

12. Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace, similar to Craigslist is one of best places to sell DVDs, because it is easy, hassle-free, and done in person. It’s also free.

Facebook Marketplace has a more intuitive interface than Craigslist. However, you’ll need a Facebook account in order to list items and communicate with potential buyers.

Set your price after uploading your photos and adding your description. Facebook Messenger is the main way buyers will contact you.

You can choose to list your DVDs along with shipping and checkout in order to reach a larger audience. This option has a downside: Facebook charges a 5% selling fee ($0.40 minimum per order).

This is still cheaper than eBay and could be worth considering if you own a collection of DVDs that are in high demand.

Facebook Marketplace is a popular option, but it’s not the only way to sell DVDs. You can also list them in a buy/sell Facebook group. You can find local groups by searching “[your town] garage sale ” or “[your town] buy/sell group” on Facebook.

13. OfferUp

OfferingUp combines the simplicity of Craigslist with the functionality and ease of use of Facebook Marketplace into a single app and website.

Use the app to upload a photo of your item and add a detailed description. You can then list it for a price you choose. You can communicate with buyers securely via the app, negotiate and schedule a meeting.

OfferUp has the advantage that you do not need a Facebook account in order to use it. You’ll still have a profile with ratings, badges and transaction history. Do not be scared – buyers only want to make sure that you are a legitimate seller.

You can also list your products for sale locally, or you can choose to have them shipped. You may have to pay service charges or shipping fees if you choose this route. Local buying and selling is free.

You can read more about it here:

You may no longer require your DVDs as technology is always changing. There are plenty of people who still use and want to use Blu-rays and DVDs for their favorite television shows and movies.

You can earn some money by selling DVDs in person or online.

You can try a few different methods to see what works for you.
